If you are looking for something fun to do while you visit, look no further. Amory is full of outdoor and indoor events and happenings.
- The Frisco Park has been a part of Amory’s culture since it was given to the city by Frisco Railroad. Home to the 1529 Steam Engine and the new Interactive Water Fountain Frisco Park is a destination place for those visiting and living in Amory.
- Frisco Park is maintained by the Amory Parks and Recreation Department and can be reserved by calling them.
- The annual Amory Main Street Fall Festival and Chili Cookoff are held in the park annually along with Relay for Life, Senior Day, Amory High School’s senior walk, and so much more.
The Amory Regional Museum – The Amory Regional Museum is found in the historic Gilmore Sanitarium. The Amory Regional Museum hosts annual exhibits from local artists and craftsmen as well as traveling exhibits provided by The Smithsonian Institution.
- The National Guard Old Armory is full of history (including concerts by Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash) and after a major remodel is ready to create new history for Amory and Monroe County. It is available for rentals and meetings.
- Home to many annual events sure to keep you busy the National Guard Old Armory is a beautiful asset. The yearly Flashback Dance, Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball, Daddy Daughter Dance sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi Beta Nu, and so much more are held here.
- The Tenn-Tom Waterway – The Tenn-Tom Waterway is a significant industrial and recreational part of Amory’s history. Click here to learn more of the history of the Tenn-Tom Waterway. The City of Amory has a great deal to offer in industry and recreation thanks to the creation of the waterway. Boating and skiing are prominent on the Tenn-Tom.

The Waterway provides unlimited opportunities for boating, skiing, hunting, or fishing enthusiasts. This Corp of Engineers managed impoundment flows through the very beautiful Tombigbee River bottomland. Its waters are loaded with many favorite freshwater fish species including catfish, crappie, bream, and largemouth bass. Its depth ranges from four to ten feet, so, it is one of the first bodies of water to warm each spring and summer which makes for an extended boating season. It provides approximately 15,000 acres of navigable water. There are four lakes along its north to south path through Monroe County, including: the Smithville Lake, the Amory Lake, the Aberdeen Lake, and the Columbus Lake. - Weaver Creek Park & Campground – Location: 61269 Highway 278 East, Amory, MS, past Barnetts Grocery Store. (662) 257-1005 – 23 R/V Hookups with water/electricity. Primitive camping sites. A general store, dump station, restrooms, and showers. Outdoor Activities: 2 acre lake and a creek for fishing and hiking.
- Lake Monroe – Location: 7 miles north of Aberdeen on Coontail Rd. This beautiful, 99 acre lake is loaded with bream, bass, crappie, and catfish. It is primarily a fishing and family picnicking/camping lake. No skiing, trolling speed only. Amenities include: restrooms, boat ramp, picnic tables, camping electrical/water hookups, and a pavilion. The City has a designated youth fishing lake named McAlpine Lake. The City created this recreational park and lake to better serve the general health and welfare of the municipality. The City saw that providing a lake for all youth to enjoy the benefits of fishing as a good and proper use of municipal property and seeks to provide an enjoyable and productive activity for the youth of the City. The lake also has a designated walking track around it.
The City of Amory Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks holds an annual fishing rodeo during the Amory Railroad Festival (April each year). It serves as a great way to introduce youth to fishing and the great Mississippi outdoors.
- Fishing allowed Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday during daylight hours.
- Youth only fishing (15 years of age or younger).
- Only one pole per youth is allowed.
- No swimming in lake.
- No cleaning fish in or around lake area.
The City of Amory Parks & Recreation Department consists of ten different sites.
The first, Concord Complex, is located on Concord Drive directly across from East Amory Elementary School. It is spread over a nine-acre lot and consists of a large softball field, three baseball fields, two large soccer fields, and flag football fields during appropriate seasons. There is also a large parking area and free access to a public playground with large covered pavilion and picnic tables. This area can be reserved by phone call for birthday parties and occasions.
The Carlos Moore Field, located on Martin Luther King Drive, is used for baseball, softball, soccer, and flag football.
The third site is located in front of Amory High School (The Jaycee Ball Fields) and consists of two baseball and softball fields which are also used for t-ball and flag football. Also located on this site is a small playground and public Beach Volley Ball Court (Boulevard Play Park).
Directly in front of Amory High School is the Lawrence R. “Dickie” Palmer Tennis Complex. This complex recently received a major remodel as part of a USTA grant!
Located on the corner of Concord and Boulevard is the Gilmore SportsPlex. There is a large, shaded walking track, pavilion, playground, bathrooms, and softball and baseball fields with large parking convenience.
There are two community centers. East Amory Community Center, located on Crump Boulevard adjacent to the Amory High School Baseball Field and West Amory Community Center located on 111th Street across from West Amory Elementary School. Both of these facilities are available for rent upon reservation.
Amory Parks and Recreation is also proud to present the Frisco Park Interactive Fountain and Park for citizens to enjoy!
The Livestock Horse Barn and Pavilion is also used by the public for events throughout the year.
Amory Park and Recreation will soon be adding a new addition to this list. The Northeast Mississippi Nature and Interpretive Trail will soon be completed.

The annual Amory Railroad Festival is an Amory tradition since 1979. The festival is held each year on Main Street Amory. The event attracts upwards of 60,000 visitors each year and has been cited by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the Region’s Top 29 events. It includes:
